Because. No I'm kidding. It's actually a funny story. [email protected] was the first email address I ever had way back in the late 90s. The username was a distinct combination of bullfrog and 117 (I know it seems obvious but stick with me here). My dad was setting up email addresses for everybody and he asked what username I wanted. I said bullfrog because ... Jeremiah was a bullfrog (was a good friend of mine). Now my birth name isn't Jeremiah, but I remember my dad used to sing me to sleep when I was younger with Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World". So he plugged it in and duly informed me that [email protected] was already taken. The website suggested some alternatives based on adding numbers (100, 200) ... and I don't remember exactly what happened next. Either one of the suggested alternatives was 117 or I came up with it from the depths of my twisted brain, but in any case we went with bullfrog117. When our home internet was upgraded to Time Warner Roadrunner with several email boxes, I transitioned to [email protected], which I kept through high school and a part of college. In high school, around 2002, I purchased the domain name and a hosting plan for bullfrog117.com and started blogging/mucking about with web development. Once I got to college and was focusing on my computer science degree I took the web dev to the next level (PHP is king!) as well as transitioning to [email protected] Incidentally the numbers 117, however they came to become a part of my digital identity have become significantly special to me. Not only is it a result of the juxtaposition of the "lucky numbers" 11 and 7, it also represents the anniversary that I celebrate with my then-girlfriend/now-wife - 11/11/2007.
