Wait…The Cost Of Oil Did What??? And Costo Did WHAT?!?!

Here we go. A straight-forward-ish explanation of what’s going on with the price of oil.

So Iran is posturing and the price of oil spikes?!?! Grrr.

But even more grrrr was our experience at Costco today. We pulled into the line at the Fullerton Costco gas station (which seemed fairly straight-forward for a Saturday), but soon we were engaged by a Costco employee. They told us that the back pump of each lane was Regular only and the front pump was Premium only. This effectively means that everybody (except the few who don’t want to wait in the line and get Costco employee guidance to queue up for the front pump) is waiting to use one pump per lane. The next opportunity we had we bailed because that’s garbage. As Laura and I waited for the next available opportunity to exeunt the premises, we discussed why on earth Costco would do that. I was feeling fairly pessimistic and thought the only reason it made sense was because the bottom line was all that mattered and they wanted to make people choose time versus money. Laura floated the theory that it could be a social experiment to see what people in general would do at Costco since even the Premium price at Costco is cheaper than most other places.

Still….grrrrr. ;-)

Election Day 2008

President

McCain/Palin – The True Name of Barack Obama’s Change: Intolerance

But whoever wins, I intend to fully support the American President. Cuz they’re not going to bulldoze Disneyland. The prices may skyrocket and I may be too poor to afford an annual pass – but it will still be there.

Prop 8

I’ve come to the conclusion that homosexuality is (generally speaking) not a choice. Most homosexuals don’t choose to be homosexuals…that’s just how God made them. With that conclusion, I have no choice but to vote no on 8 because otherwise I’m discriminating against a group of people. And that’s unconstitutional (why is California still voting on this issue? ;) ).

What the Bible Says – And Doesn’t Say – About Homosexuality

McCain vs. Obama…round 2….FIGHT!

Obama wants to cut spending? HA!

McCain encourages bipartisanship, which I believe is the answer. Not bending over backwards for them…but working with them…

McCain doesn’t want to prioritize because he believes we can do goo in all 3 areas (health care, social security, and energy)

Obama priorities

1 – energy

15 billion a year for 10 years funding…what exactly? Car maintenance?

2 – health care

3 – social security

McCain wants to examine all bureaucracies and see what they’re doing. And we shouldn’t prioritize – we should tackle all the problems.

Obama wants us to drill…I am very impressed with Obama’s call for expanding the Peace Corps to make us all aware of conservation…just don’t talk about carbon offsets ;)

Obama says only Fortune 500 CEO’s get tax cuts….neglecting to mention the small business owners who get the tax cut that helps them stimulate the economy.

YES! Good job McCain! Call Obama on small business owners.

Obama says only a small percentage of small business owners make more than 250,000….baloney!

McCain isn’t answering the question about Social Security except to say bipartisanship is the answer (which might work….MIGHT)….but I like the answer to Medicare about assembling a commission.

Climate change isn’t an issue!!! But McCain is right….green jobs is the answer.

Obama says McCain voted 23 times against alternative energy…what else was in those bills?

Tom Brokaw you are hysterical…your hand motions – “Mr. Obama…time to stop now!”

McCain voted down alternative energy because it had pork barrel supported by Bush and Cheney! McCain voted AGAINST Bush! Who’s McSame now?

I like this idea of “investing in internet technologies in hospitals” (which Obama got the first crack at and McCain mimicked).

Observing the light system (indicating how much time debaters have to speak), McCain blew past a decent stopping point.

Obama says again that McCain voted against something…gee, guess there was pork in the bill!

Obama just spouted that banks go to Delaware – where his running mate happens to be from….yeesh!

Obama says McCain was wrong and that we weren’t greeted as liberators in Iraq…we were! Look at the pictures! It’s just become the front in the war on terror.

Hey Obama: If McCain’s war policies haven’t worked, why haven’t we been attacked again?

Did Obama forget that we DID interject in the Holocaust? And what’s this about having to work with our allies? If we can’t be everywhere at once, let the consciences of our allies dictate their morals!

The war on terror will end in Afghanistan? Really Obama? Destroy Al Queda and another extremist Islamic group will spring up in it’s place…what then?

McCain didn’t say you would invade Pakistan….he said you would announce attacking it to get Usama.

Wow Obama…using a joke as a reliable source?

Obama: Stop Russia from making mischief? What are you, a poet?

Excellent glad-handing McCain! Damn right we can’t wait for a U.N. Security Counsel. How will Obama respond though?

Damnit McCain – you said that (the without preconditions thing) last debate and Obama shot you down! >:(

That’s right Obama…sanctions on Iran will work SOOOO well…

What? Michelle Obama knows everything you don’t know? That’s a little frightening…

Tom Brokaw you are hysterical!

Veep Debate: Biden Vs. Palin….FIGHT! ;)

I’m writing my thoughts as they freeflow out of me while watching the debate on youtube. I indicate who was talking when the thought popped out. I’m also paraphrasing some of what is said in order to highlight that I agree with it.

Biden – Did McCain want to deregulate because the government regulation was bloated and not doing any good? I’m just genuinely curious….

Biden – If people can’t afford to fill up their gas tanks, maybe we should get off of foreign oil!!!!

Biden – Barak didn’t vote to raise taxes? HA!

Why are we letting them (the Dems) define the terminology? They say it’s all about deregulation and won’t let us comment on anything else…

Biden – Only the middle class is watching the debate? >>

Palin – Small business fit into the greater than/equal to 250,000…higher taxes for small business crimps America. Small business is the last

Palin – We don’t like anything else the government is doing…why should we support a government run health care system?!? Hell yeah!

Biden – A majority of small businesses don’t fall in the greater than/equal to 250,000 bracket? LIES!

Biden – :( I’m sorry you stuttered. Contrived…

Biden – *applause* You actually credited Palin for her work in Alaska. I salute you!

Palin – Bipartisanship is the solution. Agreed.

Biden – there is is! THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION!

Palin – Domestic energy is the answer! Yay!

Moderator – What is true about climate change? Really? Why are potential vice presidents discussing the validity or non-validity of \”scientific reports\”?

Palin – Cyclical climate changes are real! :)

Biden – Freaking liberals with their insistance that climate change is man’s fault….wait…which polar ice caps are melting? it’s actually building up in Antarctica! Want to blame China? Well..ok…maybe China is doing a bit to affect climate change.

Biden – Maybe John McCain didn’t like the alternative energy proposals suggested…doesn’t mean he’s against alternative energy period…means only bad proposals are making it up there….

Biden – I like your take on same-sex couples…what’s Palin gonna say though? It’s not a matter of religion…the Constitution doesn’t

Palin – She doesn’t support redefining the word marriage, but she supports same-sex couples Constitutional rights.

Biden – Again – I like your take on gay couples.

Palin – No to gay marriage, yes to civil rights for gay rights. Amen. :)

Biden – Can we stop this petty bickering about \”funding the troops\”? Oh wait it’s politics…nevermind. ;)

Palin – Stop the bickering over the term \”without preconditions\”!

Biden – Is talking all we’re going to do, though…

Moderator – why are we debating about what’s been past? That’s just inviting bickering….what the heck?

Biden – Wait….you said Iran was close to the bomb and that’s a problem! But you just said that an unstable Pakistan was a bigger threat!

Palin – There is so much respect in this room it’s making me sick ;) And yes! Let’s not bicker over the past!

Biden – So THAT’S where the liberals get their McSame stuff.

Moderator: oh so you’re complimenting Biden on his interventionism, eh? Syncophant*

Palin: She lays out what she has done about Darfur as governor of Alaska and what we should all do about it…yay!

Palin: Why do we need this back and forth bickering about who sad what when? How is that healthy debate/discussion?

Biden: Let’s get Usama…ok….HOW?!?!?! What’s your plan?

Palin: She’s not going to be lockstep with McCain’s policies like Biden claims he will be with Obama’s policies…good

Palin: Her reward is in Heaven? *OH*. I didn’t know Biden was a widower…
HA! Shout out, extra credit for watching…HA!

Biden: You support No Child Left Behind?!?! You think it failed because it was underfunded?!?! *slaps forehead*

Moderator: That’s an exceedingly anti-Bush question (is the Vice President part of the legislative branch)…hmmm

Biden: I didn’t know…I’m sorry.

Palin: Good work jumping on Biden…he shouldn’t have said “we need more of the same”…

Biden gets to jump back in there, shoot McCain in the back with anti-Maverick stuff and Palin doesn’t get to respond? Sure you’re “running out of time”, but come on!!!!

Palin: So instead of stalling or deadlocking agendas, you passed potentially bad budgets so that things can keep moving…I like it.

Biden: Mike Mansfield – don’t question motive, question judgement

Palin: Nice…a Republican attack on the “mainstream media”…yes!

Biden: Well done…saluting the troops! :)

* Moderator Gwen Ifill has a book coming out on Inaugural Day 2009 called The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. That’s interesting…the Republican pundits I’m listening to say this should disqualify Ms. Ifill on grounds of bias…but the book looks like it actually delves into racially equality in politics as a result of Obama (a black man) being nominated for president…hmmm. I just can’t tell if she’s completely in Obama’s pocket or not….

Obama Vs. McCain

McCain says Senator Obama, Obama says John. Not very respectful.

What? Did Obama really just switch to domestic policy issues on a question about foreign policy? Oh that’s right…he’s just running through his list of talking points…ok…

Obama likes to play the blame game. “We still don’t have Bin Laden.” What are you going to do about that Barak? Pull troops out of Iraq, let it become a new hideout for Al-Queda and search for Bin Laden in Afghanistan?

McCain doesn’t support torture…oh…yeah…oops. But as long as Jack Bauer government agents exist who are willing to take the temporary blame if the information is profitable, I’m fine.

I was surprised to hear Obama backpeddle in explaining what he meant by meeting with Ahmadinejad without preconditions…

Responses, Responses, Responses

I did a lot of critical thinking today and wanted to share it!

The Towers live on … in movies & television, that is

Jim asks us what we think about the Towers popping up in media.

 • I think it is garbage to digitally remove ANYTHING from a film, whether it be to replace guns with walkie-talkies or remove buildings that are no longer standing in order to be politically correct. A film, just like a picture or any other kind of archival media, is a slice of space and time that is a precious representation of history. To edit it is to attempt to rewrite history…and THAT is sacrilegious.
 • And in Disney’s case, to keep something from publication for political reasons is even MORE sacrilegious….I wish Disney would release the ABC docudrama “The Path To 9/11″. It was a brilliant miniseries that evenhandedly dealt blame on both sides of the political aisle, but Bill Clinton didn’t like it so it was censored. But that’s me on a soapbox. ;)
 • Sure I get a little lump in my throat when I see the twin towers. But we’re never going to forget, so why pretend to by editing media?

Eve Ensler on Sarah Palin

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=339760&blogID=432201915&indicate=1

My friend Rebecca re-posted a liberal blog entry deriding Sarah Palin for wanting to drill for oil in America (and a host of other things).

 • There’s a lot tackled in this article, but I respond to the thrust of the article at the moment.
 • Why is it an either/or choice on global warming and humanity’s impact on it? All I hear from liberals is that we can’t drill our way out of this. Um…yes we can. And we can do it far less invasively than we have in the past. Sure it’s not perfect (I’ll be the first to line up and help clean up birds after an oil spill), but it extracts us from daily negotiations with people who’s god told them TO KILL US! But the real truth is, no matter how much money we invest in alternative fuel sources (ethanol is a REALLY stupid idea by the way), it’s not going to complete remove the need for petroleum in this country for at least 20 years. Hybrid cars still need gas…
 • So I just take issue with the writer’s insistence that drilling is ALL bad. I disagree. :)

Interesting….a black Lincoln…I’m not saying it’s impossible….

webcomics @ chainsawsuit by kris straub
His blog led me to this (Video – Breaking News Videos from CNN.com) which just makes me crazy! It’s the damned racial double-standard (as Kris points out). We can say George Bush looks like a monkey, but we can’t say that Obama looks like a monkey? I don’t care if it’s a previous racial stereotype….you can’t reserve words like that…but that’s what minorities do with the encouragement of the liberal left.

This is hilarious! And kind of cool.

*| I branch off from there into a kind of mini rant that asks a question. I switched to the iPhone primarily because it was easier to manage the music on my phone. Since then I’ve found many other things that it does very nicely, primarily connecting the phone to the computer with a friendly (if sometimes annoying) interface. It also fits in with the fact that I have all these Apple compatible products. All this builds up to: why can’t companies unify and set standards for phone/computer connectivity? Why can’t I buy a Zune that interfaces as easily with my computer as the iPhone? Why must I buy three new chargers when I replace my MP3 player instead of re-using old chargers that STILL WORK? Wouldn’t it cut down on waste in this country thereby reducing the amount of garbage and pollution in the world? Or is it easier to whine about carbon footprints and what individuals can do to prevent global warming than take on big companies and insist on revolutionizing the way standards are set. And on that note, we segue to a tasty little global warming article! |*

I love how the secretary has to point out that this isn’t a global warming thing.

Heath Ledger Dead at 28

Details come in about Heath Ledger’s death

AFP: Actor Heath Ledger is found dead

I guess this means the Joker doesn’t get more than 1 reprise in the Batman universe without replacing him again. [sigh] Or did they film a death scene for the Joker and an imprisonment in Arkham scene and will now change to the death scene? It will be very interesting to see.

His talent will be missed though. This is a great loss for the creative community.
