In The Heights – OCPAC

August 10th, 2010

Very fun story with lots of high energy dance and freestyle lyrics. The story of a neighborhood in Washington Heights that has evolved into a large family unit that protects itself as the rest of the world beats down on it. really enjoyed In The Heights @OCPAC but it occurred to me that it’s @ThatKevinSmith [...]

1776 – MTW

July 25th, 2010

Absolutely brilliant!

A really impressive youth production! Laura helped out with costumes and MADE Belle’s ballroom gown in 2 days.  Isn’t it amazing?

A highly enjoyable show that is an all female cast (good to remember from a production mindset). People I Knew: Kieran, Summer, Jennifer.

People I know: Whitney Ackerman (Danny Zuko), Amanda Baker (Marty), Brian Sipkovich (Kenickie), David Kinne (Sonny), Jonathan Dean (Vince Fontaine), Josh Alton (Teen Angel), Sarah Harrington (Anita), Megan Berndt (Peggy), and my amazingly talented sister Alyssa Heckman (Sherry). Aside from adding the song “Hopelessly Devoted To You” from the movie (which was a nice moment [...]

Dreamgirls – OCPAC

April 21st, 2010

A delightful production. By turns a gluttonous multimedia extravaganza and tantalizingly fictional tale based in Motown, Diana Ross and the Supremes. Phenomenal performances even from the third tier!

A delightful production of Cole Porter’s musical stone soup (nearly every song in the 1986 version that everyone does is from a different Cole Porter musical; the original Anything Goes is called the Beaumont version and is very rarely done), the kids of Laguna Beach High School do a fantastic job with a high school [...]

A delightful 1928 musical comedy wrapped in a cynical, modern shell, narrated by a lonely man who doesn’t know why he’s depressed – hey let’s listen to this 2 record set of my favorite musical!

Phenomenal!!! I walked out of the theatre like. giddy fan boy! This musical is almost tied with Urinetown as the show I’ve seen the most (I’ve seen 5 different productions of Urinetown and now 4 of Sweeney – once with Norman Large (EEEE) at Riverside Community Theatre; once with John Massey Jr directing, musical directing [...]

Xanadu – OCPAC

December 23rd, 2009

Down To Earth (1947) was a spiritual sequel to the film Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941, which in itself was remade twice – the 1978 Heaven Can Wait and the 2001 Down To Earth). The plot was recycled in 1980 to create the movie musical Xanadu as a vehicle for Olivia Newton-John that has now [...]
