All I need is you
Everything

Matt Kladnik

Did a wedding in Coronado Bay, Grace sang – it’s the Kladnik show!
Build and swell to a wedding
Expectancy
You can feel something happening
Like surfing
Declaration is the crescendo, and the kiss!
God’s redemptive service throughout history
Genesis
Work, striving, labor and pain replace freedom
Israel desires to be a nation and settles for slavery
Longing for purpose and identity
Not a warrior, a servant
Union happens through sacrifice
Kiss is only the beginning of the wedding, cross is beginning of intimacy with God
Romans 5:1-11
In fallen nature, always looking for something to fill the hole designed for intimacy with God
Romans 12:1-2
God’s passions become our passions
Transformation is a process
More easily visible with youth
How many times do we say “we should pray for people” and do nothing
Mark 9:2-4
Transfiguration = transformation
Allows Jesus to have His heart set on the cross, to have a purpose
Transformation is a process
Microwave generation
Want it now
You know you’re rushed when fast food isn’t fast enough
We want our schedule, not God’s schedule
Dreams won’t be reality if we neglect God
It all depends on how you wait, letting your character be defined
Sacrifice
Choosing less money
Sacrifices urge transformation
How often do we pray “Lord, Renew my mind”? It’s a process
Having your mind renewed is a great idea
Building relationship
Matt had to pursue Grace
How do we have that intimate relationship with Jesus? How do you love your wife?
Pursue God with that desire
When the crap hits the fan, pursue God
Do we put ourselves in the right place so God will just happen to walk by?
Intimacy -> transformation
Communion is about three things
1) remember God
1 Corinthians 11:27
2) be with God
3) examine yourself
1 Corinthians 11:26

Noises Off! – Camino Real Playhouse

MUCH better than Fullerton’s debacle (http://www.bullfrog117.com/unfiltered/2008/11/11/noises-off-csu-fullerton/). It was essentially a black box/cabaret theatre so seeing the set rotate was very mesmerizing (they chopped the set into three pieces so that they could play one of those sliding tile games and get things rotated around). The acting was superb, the set was beautiful, the costumes were wonderfully 70s and the pace was PERFECT!

Genesis 3:7-22
Instead of chastising, God seeks for man
Pursuit for the heart of man and woman
Where are you?
Who told you that you were naked?
Have you eaten of the tree?
Not doing a very good job of covering ourselves
Problem of sin
When God asks a question, He already knows the answer
If humanity can answer His question, we can find the path to healing
Up to now Adam has never hidden from God
Trauma to his mind, heart, and soul
Parents give children a lickin’ – staring into your soul
Feel exposed by parent’s gaze
Where are you?
Who messed with you that you feel the need to hide
Why?
Initially naked and unashamed
Radical vulnerability
v7- there eyes were opened
They see something inside their hearts
Original design was to be completely known AND completely accepted (naked and unashamed)
Tension between “I don’t want to be known” and “I want to be known”
Idea of nakedness linked to radical vulnerability
Nobody feels out of place in bathing suits at the beach – would feel naked at a ball
You can’t control what they’re seeing
We desperately want to be known and liked
Why? Because we were designed to be naked and unashamed
Grafitti On Our Souls
We don’t want people to know how anxious, depressed, frustrated, etc
Why do some of us need to control what other people see?
Why is self-promotion of half-truths acceptable?
Hebrews 4:13
2 eyes out there in the universe that see EVERYTHING
Jumped behind the trees because something just broke
Lost purity and greatness
Adequacy and smallness sets in
Can’t stand to be known
Happens in our lives as well
Memory trace of paradise lost
We can’t forget the original design
2. Humanity is very good at inventing clever devices to dress ourselves up
Dress up in father’s oversized clothes
Need to hide from one another, cover themselves
Then hide from God
Then blame shift
The devil is always making me do bad things
We do it in mundane details every day of the week
We run for fun, for recreation, for healthy bodies
Main life motive – what drives you?
Why do we work to exhaustion? Why do we brag about it?
Look at how important I am
Why do some of us have to help/save the world?
Why can’t we disappoint people?
Everything is a fig leaf
We know we’re unacceptable so we cover up
It’s cute when you’re 5, not when you’re 45
-3- putting on the right clothing
Gave someone a juicy piece of information and waiting to see what happens
I accept you still
It’s what every human heart craves
Still pull me in
They’ve covered you up
Archeology found letter – business man writing back to pregnant wife
If it’s a girl, throw it out
Ezekiel 16:4-8, 14
How does God do this?
Serpent said God can’t be trusted
That He doesn’t want us a equals
God will expose you and throw you out to die
Bit into the lie, and their response was to hide
The only healing is to come to God, to come to Jesus
“Come to me and you will find rest”
Romans 4:7
Not just an idea – our Savior
He covers our sins and He sees only beauty, not sin
Cut off from tree of life
Humanity has to go back to the tree, someone has to go through the flaming sword
Cut off from the land of the living, went back to the tree of life
John 20:31-34
Come to me and I will take you to the tree of life
Colossians 3:1-3
Life is hidden in Christ, not behind a tree
Jesus was nailed to a tree so we wouldn’t have to be
God is looking for us among the trees and sees us hidden in Jesus
We are a new creation
I’m a follower of Jesus Christ
We’re desparately trying to cover ourselves…midnight’s coming Cinderella and all will be exposed
Let’s put on the life of Christ tonight

Overwhelmed

Spamalot – OCPAC

I love that the Knights Who No Longer Say Ni made a David Letterman joke, (I’m not throwing stones, I’ve slept with all the knights on my staff; stupid human tricks) and John O’Hurley LOST IT! It was beautiful and hilarious and the single reason worth seeing the whole show (I saw it in Vegas 2 years ago). But then…did O’Hurley really lose it or convincingly act like he lost it? Apparently they did the same joke the night before, but then when our friends saw it a week later, it was a completely different joke! So it’s improvised every night. So is O’Hurley acting surprised because he’s prepared for hilarity or is he not preparing and losing it?

A lot of my old review (viewable hereĀ Spamalot (The Vegas Edition)) still applies…tragically. Eric Idle just isn’t as good at adapting his material as Mel Brooks is (although that remains to be seen when Young Frankenstein comes around next year…I’m just saying so far).

The program had a fake program inside for the Finland musical that the show starts with (everybody hears Finland instead of England when the historian launches the show and they go into the traditional Fish-Schlapping Song!).

OCPAC put a giant foot out in front of the theatre. But they didn’t keep it primed during the run…they let it deflate and blow about during the day. At least we got to walk up to the theatre and start humming the Flying Circus theme song.

Spoiler Alert! (place and hold your mouse over the bar to see)

My biggest problem with the show is the whole Lancelot being gay thing. Now I'm a very open-minded individual, but the first time I saw that, it just displeased me. Sure there are funny jokes like: "Just think...in 2000 years this will still be controversial", but I just didn't like it for some reason. A friend of mine pointed out that there is a very small bit in the movie that alludes to Lancelot's homosexuality - when Lancelot saves Galahad from the tower of virgins, Galahad accuses him and Lancelot dismisses it. I guess I can live with it...and try not to rant about it if you ask what I thought...Also, there isn't any Bridge Of No Return. No killing the historian. No arrest at the end of the movie. They find the grail and have a big splashy wedding. 'I feel so...unsatisfied' (Rounders).

Jonah 1:1-3
God is calling Jonah to an incredible task
Modern day terrorists, Jew killers, Assyrians
Tell them to turn to God
Why would a religious man turn away from God?
4:2 abounding in love
They could turn on me or they could repent and want to be my best friends!
God put me in this tight corner
Root problem: *I* will decide whether this particular thing gets me where I want to go
This doesn’t line up with Jonah’s vision
We know the why (I will love God if life goes well for MY plans)
As you walk through the story
Heads the opposite direction
Takes a nap
1:4-6
The other gods of the pagans won’t save them, so they beg Jonah to try his God
Jonah has a chance to help save them with his God
Jonah’s goal is to stay away from Nineveh for 40 days so he’s out of the duty
I would rather die than go to a people who I don’t feel deserve the love of God
What does indifference lead to (I’d rather just ignore this)? Doesn’t pursue, doesn’t go after
120,000 people in Manhattan Beach
Are our hearts indifferent to the people around us?
Root problem: no choice (he thinks) but to disobey
What else is in Jonah’s heart? Resentment
How can we find resentment in our hearts? Is our obedience attached to conditions?
It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen an I will do anything just to look at it
That us what we call worship
It can be anything, person, career, goals
What does your heart gaze at and cling to?
We were designed to worship

Worth ship
What are you giving worth in your life
Jonah
Monotheist
As long as worshiping God fits into my version of reality, I’ll worship Him
That which you cling and give worth to will manifest in your life
Nothing wrong with wanting justice, or disobeying God (?)
Slips into indifferent slumber
If I don’t have this, my obedience stops
3:5
God had been preparing the people for Himself
We restrict God in our minds – saying he isn’t working with a certain area or group of people
Jonah gets mad and demands eye for an eye
Do you do well to be angry Jonah? Yes God!
Now Jonah has to work on his bitterness
I don’t even want them in my circle – they would wreck my thing
I don’t think that person will ever turn to God – reveals the fact that you’ve forgotten your own miracle
You’re not better than anybody else!
What’s in Jonah’s heart? Linked to an idol
Elyse Fitzpatrick
Idols are thoughts, desires, longings, and expectations that we worship in the place of the true God. Idols cause us to ignore the true God in search of what we think we need
If you’re willing to sin to obtain your goal or if you sin when you don’t get what you want, then your desire has taken God’s place and you’re functioning as an idolater
Even in Jonah’s disobedience, God chases after him
God still uses Jonah in his disobedience to save the mariners
When Jonah runs away, God sends a storm
Discovery Channel – WHEN STORMS HIT BEACHES! SUNDAY NIGHT!
Storms are natural things and healthy for the beach – washes out dead things
God: The Ninevites have 40 days to be saved, but so do you, Jonah!
If you build your life on physical appearance, age will drive you crazy
As things began to sag and droop, you will start to sag and droop
Things are never stable
Storms move them about
Where is your anchor? Where is your rock?
