Jennifer – Snow White – 80′s Reduction

Apparently Pinocchio’s Daring Journey wasn’t in Disneyland when it opened in 1955.  I didn’t know this.  But getting into a conversation with Cast Member Jennifer (who was working the exit for Snow White’s Scary Adventure) about the different endings for the ride in Disneyland and WDW’s Magic Kingdom, she revealed this little tidbit:  Snow White used to take up the entire west side of Fantasyland.  When Fantasyland was remodeled in the 80′s to it’s current European village feel, Snow White’s track was chopped in two and Pinocchio was installed in the same vibe the Imagineers had built Snow White with.

*EDIT – 7/5/2010*

This is not the truth.  Before Pinocchio’s Daring Journey was built in the 80′s, it’s real estate was occupied by the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (similar to the layout of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse had many iterations – including a Lion King Theatre – but is now settled on Mickey’s Philharmagic).  Thanks Jeff Allen!

Heather – Wishing Star – no “you break it you buy it policy”

You know those crystal blocks that have images three dimensionally printed inside them?  The store dedicated to them is called the Wishing Star.  And they don’t have a “you break it, you buy it policy”.  I was in the store joking with Cast Member Heather about how one of the display crystals looked rather precarious on it’s perch and she knocked it over (on purpose) to demonstrate that the crystals are more sturdy than you would initally believe.  She then explained that as long as it was obviously accidental, Disneyland doesn’t require you to purchase broken merchandise.

Days Of Infamy (Pearl Harbor Book 2) – Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen

Just as brilliant as last time, Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen continue to draw us in to their active history to analyze great military commanders and the men they commanded.

Picking up where Pearl Harbor left off (with General Yamamoto ordering a catastrophic third strike on Pearl Harbor that decimates the dry dock), we see a battle of wits between Admiral Halsey and Yamamoto as they try to find each other and end the war.

How To Lose Friends And Alienate People

The Devil Wears Prada + US vs. UK + celebrity “journalism” instead of fashion “journalism” + Simon Pegg being an oblivious ass.  Absolutely delighful.  I would call it a romantic comedy in the same bawdy fashion of Wedding Crashers.

I was suspicious of Jeff Bridges character (much in the same way I was suspicious of Mel Brooks character in Robots), but he cleared away my suspicions very well.

McCain vs. Obama…round 2….FIGHT!

Obama wants to cut spending?  HA!

McCain encourages bipartisanship, which I believe is the answer.  Not bending over backwards for them…but working with them…

McCain doesn’t want to prioritize because he believes we can do goo in all 3 areas (health care, social security, and energy)

Obama priorities

1 – energy

15 billion a year for 10 years funding…what exactly?  Car maintenance?

2 – health care

3 – social security

McCain wants to examine all bureaucracies and see what they’re doing.  And we shouldn’t prioritize – we should tackle all the problems.

Obama wants us to drill…I am very impressed with Obama’s call for expanding the Peace Corps to make us all aware of conservation…just don’t talk about carbon offsets ;)

Obama says only Fortune 500 CEO’s get tax cuts….neglecting to mention the small business owners who get the tax cut that helps them stimulate the economy.

YES!  Good job McCain!  Call Obama on small business owners.

Obama says only a small percentage of small business owners make more than 250,000….baloney!

McCain isn’t answering the question about Social Security except to say bipartisanship is the answer (which might work….MIGHT)….but I like the answer to Medicare about assembling a commission.

Climate change isn’t an issue!!!  But McCain is right….green jobs is the answer.

Obama says McCain voted 23 times against alternative energy…what else was in those bills?

Tom Brokaw you are hysterical…your hand motions – “Mr. Obama…time to stop now!”

McCain voted down alternative energy because it had pork barrel supported by Bush and Cheney!  McCain voted AGAINST Bush!  Who’s McSame now?

I like this idea of “investing in internet technologies in hospitals” (which Obama got the first crack at and McCain mimicked).

Observing the light system (indicating how much time debaters have to speak), McCain blew past a decent stopping point.

Obama says again that McCain voted against something…gee, guess there was pork in the bill!

Obama just spouted that banks go to Delaware – where his running mate happens to be from….yeesh!

Obama says McCain was wrong and that we weren’t greeted as liberators in Iraq…we were!  Look at the pictures!  It’s just become the front in the war on terror.

Hey Obama:  If McCain’s war policies haven’t worked, why haven’t we been attacked again?

Did Obama forget that we DID interject in the Holocaust?  And what’s this about having to work with our allies?  If we can’t be everywhere at once, let the consciences of our allies dictate their morals!

The war on terror will end in Afghanistan?  Really Obama?  Destroy Al Queda and another extremist Islamic group will spring up in it’s place…what then?

McCain didn’t say you would invade Pakistan….he said you would announce attacking it to get Usama.

Wow Obama…using a joke as a reliable source?

Obama:  Stop Russia from making mischief?  What are you, a poet?

Excellent glad-handing McCain!  Damn right we can’t wait for a U.N. Security Counsel.  How will Obama respond though?

Damnit McCain – you said that (the without preconditions thing) last debate and Obama shot you down!  >:(

That’s right Obama…sanctions on Iran will work SOOOO well…

What?  Michelle Obama knows everything you don’t know?  That’s a little frightening…

Tom Brokaw you are hysterical!

Veep Debate: Biden Vs. Palin….FIGHT! ;)

I’m writing my thoughts as they freeflow out of me while watching the debate on youtube. I indicate who was talking when the thought popped out. I’m also paraphrasing some of what is said in order to highlight that I agree with it.

Biden – Did McCain want to deregulate because the government regulation was bloated and not doing any good? I’m just genuinely curious….

Biden – If people can’t afford to fill up their gas tanks, maybe we should get off of foreign oil!!!!

Biden – Barak didn’t vote to raise taxes? HA!

Why are we letting them (the Dems) define the terminology? They say it’s all about deregulation and won’t let us comment on anything else…

Biden – Only the middle class is watching the debate? >>

Palin – Small business fit into the greater than/equal to 250,000…higher taxes for small business crimps America. Small business is the last

Palin – We don’t like anything else the government is doing…why should we support a government run health care system?!? Hell yeah!

Biden – A majority of small businesses don’t fall in the greater than/equal to 250,000 bracket? LIES!

Biden – :( I’m sorry you stuttered. Contrived…

Biden – *applause* You actually credited Palin for her work in Alaska. I salute you!

Palin – Bipartisanship is the solution. Agreed.

Biden – there is is! THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION!

Palin – Domestic energy is the answer! Yay!

Moderator – What is true about climate change? Really? Why are potential vice presidents discussing the validity or non-validity of \”scientific reports\”?

Palin – Cyclical climate changes are real! :)

Biden – Freaking liberals with their insistance that climate change is man’s fault….wait…which polar ice caps are melting? it’s actually building up in Antarctica! Want to blame China? Well..ok…maybe China is doing a bit to affect climate change.

Biden – Maybe John McCain didn’t like the alternative energy proposals suggested…doesn’t mean he’s against alternative energy period…means only bad proposals are making it up there….

Biden – I like your take on same-sex couples…what’s Palin gonna say though? It’s not a matter of religion…the Constitution doesn’t

Palin – She doesn’t support redefining the word marriage, but she supports same-sex couples Constitutional rights.

Biden – Again – I like your take on gay couples.

Palin – No to gay marriage, yes to civil rights for gay rights. Amen. :)

Biden – Can we stop this petty bickering about \”funding the troops\”? Oh wait it’s politics…nevermind. ;)

Palin – Stop the bickering over the term \”without preconditions\”!

Biden – Is talking all we’re going to do, though…

Moderator – why are we debating about what’s been past? That’s just inviting bickering….what the heck?

Biden – Wait….you said Iran was close to the bomb and that’s a problem! But you just said that an unstable Pakistan was a bigger threat!

Palin – There is so much respect in this room it’s making me sick ;) And yes! Let’s not bicker over the past!

Biden – So THAT’S where the liberals get their McSame stuff.

Moderator: oh so you’re complimenting Biden on his interventionism, eh? Syncophant*

Palin: She lays out what she has done about Darfur as governor of Alaska and what we should all do about it…yay!

Palin: Why do we need this back and forth bickering about who sad what when? How is that healthy debate/discussion?

Biden: Let’s get Usama…ok….HOW?!?!?! What’s your plan?

Palin: She’s not going to be lockstep with McCain’s policies like Biden claims he will be with Obama’s policies…good

Palin: Her reward is in Heaven? *OH*. I didn’t know Biden was a widower…
HA!  Shout out, extra credit for watching…HA!

Biden:  You support No Child Left Behind?!?!  You think it failed because it was underfunded?!?!  *slaps forehead*

Moderator:  That’s an exceedingly anti-Bush question (is the Vice President part of the legislative branch)…hmmm

Biden:  I didn’t know…I’m sorry.

Palin:  Good work jumping on Biden…he shouldn’t have said “we need more of the same”…

Biden gets to jump back in there, shoot McCain in the back with anti-Maverick stuff and Palin doesn’t get to respond?  Sure you’re “running out of time”, but come on!!!!

Palin:  So instead of stalling or deadlocking agendas, you passed potentially bad budgets so that things can keep moving…I like it.

Biden:  Mike Mansfield – don’t question motive, question judgement

Palin:  Nice…a Republican attack on the “mainstream media”…yes!

Biden:  Well done…saluting the troops!  :)

* Moderator Gwen Ifill has a book coming out on Inaugural Day 2009 called <a href=”http://www.amazon.com/Breakthrough-Politics-Race-Age-Obama/dp/038552501X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223408455&sr=1-1″>The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama</a>.  That’s interesting…the Republican pundits I’m listening to say this should disqualify Ms. Ifill on grounds of bias…but the book looks like it actually delves into racially equality in politics as a result of Obama (a black man) being nominated for president…hmmm.  I just can’t tell if she’s completely in Obama’s pocket or not….

An American Carol – AMC 30 @ The Block, Orange, CA

A brilliant conservative satire by David Zucker, you would be remiss (or politically biased) to see W. (Oliver Stone’s latest opus that villifies our current President) or Bill Maher’s Religulous (saying that all religion is stupid) and not see this film. Then again, multiple movie theatres are shorting the gross reports for this movie by printing another movie title on the ticket and Bella Terra is so leftist it’s not even playing at their theaters!!! Then again, they could be thinking there are not enough people in their market to support the movie…no, even *I* can’t make that bacon fly.

Starring a laundry list of Hollywood conservatives (Kelsey Grammar, Dennis Hopper, Jon Voight, Bill O’Reilly, country star Trace Adkins, and Chris Farley’s little brother Kevin), it’s a twist on Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol where a Michael Moore-esque character tries to abolish the Fourth of July.

JFK plays the ghost of Jacob Marley, General George S. Patton (masterly portrayed by Grammar) as the Ghost of American Past (?), George Washington (well played by Voight, but I preferred David Morse in HBO’s John Adams miniseries) as the Ghost of American Present and Adkins as the Angel of Death, followed by the awakened patriotism/conversion of Scrooge Michael Malone, documentary filmmaker who couldn’t get laid at a Columbia anti-war rally.

A brilliant film in a season of anti-conservatism.

Confusing for the movie trailer to clarify that it’s Michael Malone, not Moore and advertise that Rosie *O’Connell* is in the movie when that’s really a fake person…very confusing.

The Last Templar by Raymond Khoury

I appreciated this book, not just as an exciting historical thriller (akin to Da Vinci Code and it’s many spawn), but for taking the issues of faith and religion a step further in this book.  Unlike Da Vinci Code, here we have a character who is a member of the faith the supposed Templar secret could tear asunder.  A character who expresses an outrage akin to what I felt when I read Da Vinci Code and it dropped its supposed “truth” on me about Jesus.  And I really appreciated that.Or maybe it’s because I’ve already coped with the supposed “truths” that Da Vinci Code claims, or I’ve grown and matured or I’m just crazy.

This is a really exciting book and an excellent read.
